About us
Situated in the heart of the German Wine Road, Dr. Josef Köhr crafts unique wines from grapes grown in the estate's traditional vineyard plots in Ruppertsberg (Pfalz) and its surrounding areas.
The favourable micro-climate of the region is owed to the exposition at the foot of the Pfälzerwald mountainside. As part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Pfälzerwald is Germany’s largest continuous forest area, seamlessly merging with the Northern Vosges in France.
Impressive castle ruins situated alongside pastoral forest passages are contemporary witnesses of the region’s moved past. The family's first documented vineyard ownership dates back to 1648, showcasing their deep-rooted connection to the area.
Today, Dr. Josef Köhr cultivates both white and red grape varieties across 16 hectares. The estate’s oldest vineyard plots, which have been in the family for 200 years, are home to vines that are up to 40 years old.
These vineyards form the foundation of the winery’s premium wines, with Riesling and Pinot being the estate’s most important grape varieties.

Products & Services
Riesling and Pinot are the estate's most traditional grape varieties, reflecting the region’s heritage. Gewürztraminer is another traditional and relevant variety.
In recent years, Sauvignon blanc has gained significant momentum and share in the estate's grape repertoire.
For reds, the classic Pinot Noir is complemented by international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
2020 Blanc de Blancs brut
Our sparkling cuvée, made from Chardonnay and Weißburgunder, is a quality sparkling wine produced using the traditional method (classic bottle fermentation). A second fermentation in the bottle allows endogenous carbon dioxide to form the foundation for a fine mousse. After 38 months of aging on the bottle before disgorging, the bubbles are fine and perfectly integrated with the structure of the cuvée. The sparkling wine is harmonious and well-balanced.
2021 Pinot noir Réserve unfiltered
An elegant, powerful, and long-lasting Pinot Noir! Grown in our renowned Ruppertsberg Nußbien vineyard, characterized by calcareous, colorful sandstone soils. The wine was fermented on the skins for over a month and matured for at least 30 months in French barriques with regular bâtonnage. This Pinot Noir displays deeply saturated ruby red hues in the glass.
2024 Riesling Hambach
Our Riesling village wine is made from grapes sourced from our vineyards in the village of Hambach, located just below Hambach Castle. The wine is characterized by its refined varietal aroma and refreshing acidity. Slow fermentation at moderate temperatures, under controlled conditions, results in a wine with a strong expression of varietal character. The lively acidity is a result of the slightly cooler climate in Hambach compared to Ruppertsberg.
2018 Linsebusch Gewürztraminer semi-sweet
A semi-sweet Gewürztraminer from our vineyard in Ruppertsberg Linsenbusch. The wine displays delicate fruit aromas of lychee and rose petals. Its natural fruit sweetness makes it an ideal companion, particularly for Asian cuisine.
